C | Occipital: Inferiorly on the occipital bone are the occipital condyles which articulate with the atlas (the first cervical vertebrae). Also the foramen magnum, through which the spinal cord passes. |

Sphenoid: This bone is shaped like a bat, and spans the width of the skull. The "greater wings" are the portion seen here in E. In the middle of the bone is the sella turcica. This is where the pituitary gland sits. |

Ethmoid: This bone is anterior to the sphenoid. Important parts of the ethmoid are: crista galli, superior and middle nasal conchae and the cribriform plates. |
