The head of the femur articulates with the acetabulum of the coxal bone.
The "ankle bones" are formed by the medial malleolus of the tibia, and the lateral malleolus of the fibula.

There are seven tarsals in each foot, including 3 cuneiforms, the cuboid, navicular, talus and calcaneus. The calcaneus is the "heel bone" and the talus articulates with the tibia and fibula.
